Applying cold to your muscles immediately after a strength workout can blunt the natural inflammatory response. This response is required for muscle growth and adaptation.

By stopping this natural process, you can limit the strength gains you would otherwise get from your training. What happens when you experience lead hip stiffness on the back nine?

This experience highlights a critical concept in sports medicine. Tendons do not have a rich blood supply like muscles do.
