Golf Calories Burned Calculator

Golf Calories Burned Calculator

Estimate calories burned playing golf using your age group, activity, weight and actual time, with separate older-adult values and total calories.

Golf energy estimate

Estimate calories used playing golf

Use your age group, activity, body weight and actual time to estimate total energy used, including energy used at rest.

Your activity

Each age group uses its own activity and resting-energy references.

Pulling means walking and pulling clubs. It does not include pushing a trolley.

Use the unit you know.

Accepted range: 20 to 250 kg, or its equivalent in pounds.

Whole minutes, from 1 to 480. Use actual time, not a preset number of holes.

Click Calculate or press Enter. Changes do not update the estimate automatically.

Estimate the total calories used during a golf round or driving range session from your age group, activity, body weight and actual time. This calculator uses separate adult and older-adult activity references, with results rounded to the nearest 50 kcal.

How to use the calculator

  • Select your age group, a supported activity and your weight unit. Enter body weight and actual activity time in minutes.
  • Click Calculate or press Enter while using an input. The calculator does not update automatically.
  • Compare estimates by changing a selection and calculating again. Keep the same age group, weight and duration when comparing activity choices. The previous result stays tied to its submitted details until you calculate again.
  • Click Reset to clear every input, the estimate, errors and change notices.

What your calorie estimate means

The estimate is gross energy expenditure. It includes the calories your body would use at rest during the same time, so it is not an active-calorie estimate.

The number is rounded to the nearest 50 kcal to avoid suggesting personal precision. Use it to compare supported golf activities and durations, not to set a food target.

How calories burned are calculated

For age 40 to 59, the Adult Compendium provides these activity values: - Walking, carrying clubs: 4.3 MET. - Walking, pulling a trolley: 4.5 MET. - Using a power cart: 3.5 MET. - Driving range practice: 3.5 MET.

Adult gross kcal = MET × weight in kg × minutes / 60.

For age 60 or older, the Older Adult Compendium lists walking and pulling clubs at 4.3 MET60+. Its resting-energy reference is 0.810 kcal/kg/hour, rather than the adult reference of 1 kcal/kg/hour.

Older-adult gross kcal = 4.3 × 0.810 × weight in kg × minutes / 60.

Displayed kcal = round(gross kcal / 50) × 50.

Adult MET and older-adult MET60+ use different resting-energy references. Their activity values and conversion factors are kept separate.

Units and supported inputs

Choose pounds or kilograms. Pounds are converted with kg = lb × 0.45359237. Body weight can include decimals. The numeric field accepts 1 to 600, and the resulting weight must be within 20 to 250 kg. These are interface limits, not health categories.

Duration must be a whole number from 1 to 480 minutes. Use actual time spent on the chosen activity. The calculator does not assume a fixed duration from the number of holes.

The age 40 to 59 selection uses adult activity values. The age 60 or older selection uses the separate older-adult value and conversion, with walking and pulling clubs as the only supported activity.

Worked example: carrying clubs for one hour

A golfer aged 40 to 59 weighs 70 kg and walks while carrying clubs for 60 minutes.

Gross energy = 4.3 × 70 × 60 / 60 = 301 kcal.

Display rounding = round(301 / 50) × 50 = 300 kcal.

The calculator therefore displays 300 kcal, including resting energy. This is an independently calculated example, not a published golf worked example.

Limits of the estimate

These are population estimates, not measured personal calorie expenditure. Individual resting metabolism, fitness, pace and course conditions can change the energy used. No terrain, bag-weight or temperature adjustments are applied.

The older-adult evidence supports only the pulling activity offered here. The Older Adult Compendium excludes older adults with physical disabilities and chronic diseases, so its values may not represent those golfers. Other golf transport choices cannot be estimated for age 60 or older with this tool.

Common questions

Does walking burn more calories than using a golf cart?

For age 40 to 59, the published values used here are higher for carrying clubs or pulling a trolley than for using a power cart. Keep weight and actual time the same when comparing activities. This tool does not offer a power-cart estimate for age 60 or older.

Why is only pulling available for golfers aged 60 or older?

The Older Adult Compendium lists golf while walking and pulling clubs at 4.3 MET60+. It does not supply the other golf modes used here. The calculator does not borrow adult values or mix them with the older-adult resting-energy reference.

Can I use the pulling option for a push trolley?

No. The published activity is walking and pulling clubs. This calculator does not treat pushing a trolley as the same activity.

Why might this result differ from my watch?

This calculator uses population activity values, body weight and time. A watch may use heart rate, movement and a different resting-energy estimate. It may also report active calories rather than total calories. Neither reading should be treated as an exact personal measurement.
