TEE IT FORWARD 18 HOLES

Find your course-length range

A more enjoyable round starts with the right tees. Choose the chart reference closest to your average drive.

Use your typical drive, not your longest. Between two references? Compare both.

The published chart provides eight references, from 100 to 275 yards. It does not distinguish carry from total driving distance.

Your tee range will appear here

Select your driving distance, then click Find my tee range.

Compare this range with the 18-hole yardages on your scorecard, rather than the tee colors.

Based on the PGA of America and USGA chart. A starting point, not a course-specific fitting.

Find the published 18-hole course-length range for the reference nearest your average driving distance. This calculator uses the PGA of America and USGA TEE IT FORWARD chart, with distances in yards.

Use the range to compare tees by scorecard yardage, not tee color. It is a starting point, not a course-specific fitting.

How to use the calculator

  • Select the published reference nearest your average driving distance, rather than your longest drive.
  • Select Find my tee range, or press Enter while the selector has focus.
  • Compare the returned range with tee yardages on the scorecard.
  • Reset clears your selection and result.

What your result means

The two results are the lower and upper ends of the published total 18-hole course-length range. They are not distances for individual holes.

Match the range to scorecard yardage, not tee color. Tee colors vary between courses and do not identify a fixed course length.

The published lookup method

This is a lookup of the published TEE IT FORWARD chart, not a distance multiplier or a new tee-selection model.

Formula: (course_min_yards, course_max_yards) = chart[driver_reference].

Lookup table: driver reference => total 18-hole course-length range. All distances are yards.

  • 100 => 2,100 to 2,300
  • 125 => 2,800 to 3,000
  • 150 => 3,500 to 3,700
  • 175 => 4,400 to 4,600
  • 200 => 5,200 to 5,400
  • 225 => 5,800 to 6,000
  • 250 => 6,200 to 6,400
  • 275 => 6,700 to 6,900

The selected reference remains a string and must match a published row exactly. No interpolation is used.

Units and assumptions

  • All input and output distances are in yards.
  • Recommendations describe total 18-hole course length. There is no automatic conversion to a 9-hole recommendation.
  • The chart does not clearly specify whether driver distance means carry or total distance including roll.
  • Age, sex and handicap do not alter the returned chart values.

Worked example: a 100-yard driver reference

Choose the 100-yard driver reference. Its published row returns:

  • Lower end: 2,100 yards.
  • Upper end: 2,300 yards.

The published total 18-hole course-length range is therefore 2,100 to 2,300 yards.

Where this guidance stops

This is TEE IT FORWARD guidance, not the newer USGA Best Tees system. Treat it as a starting point, not a course-specific fitting.

The chart does not account for forced carries, elevation, hole mix or course difficulty. Check those features before choosing a tee set. A total yardage range cannot tell you whether a particular forced carry is manageable.

Only the listed references from 100 through 275 yards are supported. The calculator does not extrapolate beyond them. It does not predict scores, pace of play or injury risk.

Tee selection questions

What if my driving distance falls between two published rows?

View both neighboring rows and compare their course-length ranges. For example, a golfer averaging 190 yards can view the 175-yard and 200-yard rows. This tool does not average the ranges or calculate an intermediate recommendation.

Is there a separate tee recommendation for senior golfers?

No. This chart uses driving distance, not age. Use your current average driving distance to select a reference, then compare the returned range with scorecard yardages and the course's demands. Age, sex and handicap do not change the chart values.
